So, you weren't invited to the party. Instead of moping around and feeling sorry for yourself, host your own party, a party of one. While to some it may sound pathetic, but I believe that you are your own best friend. Friends may come and go, but the one person that will always understand you is yourself. I think that the best thing about a party for one is that you can do whatever you want. Literally. You don't have to care about what you look like or what other people think of you when jam out to your favorite song. You can be completely yourself and just go for it.

Indulge in some sweets.

As Julia Child says, "A party without cake is just a meeting." So make it a party! Get pastries or cake to indulge in. Treat yourself! Whether it's macarons that you're planning on indulging on or rich chocolate cake, a party will always have treats.

Splurge something that you've been coveting.

What's a party without gifts? Pick up those cute whale measuring cups from Anthropologie that you totally do not need or that necklace from Bauble Bar that you have had bookmarked for weeks. While you should limit how much you spend, it's okay to splurge on something every once in a while. Treat yourself every once in a while.

Dress up.

You would doll up a bit to go to a party, right? So why is your party any exception? While some people dress to impress, I believe in wearing clothes that make you feel good. Although some comfy pajamas may make you feel good, wearing other clothes can change your mood entirely and get you out of bed. Even though I love lazy days just watching Netflix in bed, it's a party and it's time to dress up. Wear that dress that you're obsessed with but never found an occasion to wear it to. Today is that occasion.

Blast your favorite music.

I'll admit, while parties usually have some great dance music, some of that music is just not what I'm interested in. Since it's your own party, you don't have to worry about what others think, pick your favorite tunes (even if it's something totally embarrassing) and play it out without a care in the world.

Make fancy cocktails.

Cocktails or mocktails work, but try your hand at mixing up a fancy drink that makes you feel crazy sophisticated. Some drinks that I found online that seem delicious are lavender lemonade, strawberry chamomile "maritini," and a wildcat cooler. All of the drinks that I have picked are non-alcoholic, if you're wondering.

No matter what you end up doing in your party for one, the point of the party is that you are able to have fun by yourself. I have attended too many parties that I didn't even have fun at. Sometimes it's okay to not be at the party. While some people believe that not being invited to the party means that they should throw themselves a pity party, I believe that this is a party with your best friend, yourself. Why go out to a party expecting for people to like spending time with you if you don't even like spending time with yourself? So don't be ashamed to have a party for one, embrace it.

  1. Love this post! High school is so conducive to cattiness and exclusion and sometimes you just have to accept it, move on, and have a good time!

    1. Glad that you enjoyed it! You're right about high school, sometimes you don't feel included and end up feeling lonely. However, being excluded isn't a bad thing as long as you remember to love yourself, because in the end, you're stuck with yourself forever.
