I was originally planning to do a Mother's Day last-minute gift post, but why not make this generalized? Although Mother's Day is coming up this Sunday, I still believe that you should cherish your mother and other loved ones every day. I know that big gestures are always appreciated, they're the things that really catch people's attention, but sometimes it's a big collection of little things that can make someone's day. Today while I was driving to school, another person made way for me to make a turn even though it was their right of way, and let me tell you, that was so refreshing. It's the little things that you do for someone else that can make their day. So today I'm going to share some little things that you can do for others to make them smile.

Little Things to Make Someone Smile | Sunny Rebecca

Make some sweet treats.

Okay, so this is a bit more Mother's Day related, but honestly, who doesn't love getting food? If you're looking for the key to making me happy, I'm telling you, it's food. For me, personally, it's not only a great way to make people smile by sharing food, but I also love making food. This may be a bit of a bigger "little thing," but it's my favorite thing to do to cheer up others and also cheer up myself. It's beneficial for both the giver and the receiver.

Compliment cards (or actual compliments)!

Compliments are the like a coupon for a free smile. I discovered these compliment cards from Bando recently (this isn't sponsored by them I just love these cards) and I LOVE THEM. They have the cutest compliments on them and I mean what better way to make someone smile, am I right? I would honestly love it if someone gave me any of these compliment cards. If you're not willing to spend money on compliment cards (which I totally understand), you can make you own compliment cards to stick around the house for your family to find unexpectedly or you can just give verbal compliments. You can never go wrong with a friendly compliment to make someone smile!

Pay for someone else's coffee.

I've never done this before because if I'm completely honest, I don't really know how to pay for someone else's coffee in the line at the coffee shop, but I feel like this would be such a great way to make a stranger's day. While you're standing in line at Starbucks or whatever local coffee shop, imagine how great it would feel if you found out that a stranger paid for your coffee, just to be a kind human being. That would be great, right? And imagine how much greater it would be to pass that feeling onto another person.

Give a little gift, just because.

When I say "a little gift," I don't mean purposely going out to find the perfect gift for someone, but I mean spontaneously getting something for someone, not because of any occasion, but because you spotted something that you just know that they would love. There have been so many times when I've been at the store and I've seen something and the first thing that popped into my head was, "_____________ would love that!" Make that person smile and just grab that little gift that you spotted. Let them know that you were thinking about them when you spotted whatever that gift was. It's not a gift for anything except for being an awesome human being.

Say yes to doing a favor, even if it requires a little more effort.

Sometimes people ask me favors and I try to get out of having to do those favors. I know, it's horrible and I absolutely should not do it. The thing is, doing favors for people requires putting in more effort and using up your personal time. However, doing a tiny favor like picking up your neighbors mail for them or helping someone prepare for an exam can really brighten their day. Put a little bit more effort and a tiny bit of time into a small favor that will have a big positive impact on their day.

Like someone's social media post.

This is probably the easiest way to make someone else happier. I know that we shouldn't base our happiness off of the number of likes on a social media post, but let's be real, it feels good when someone likes your Instagram picture or favorites your tweet. Maybe you're not the bestest friends with someone, but you can still like their post just to do a good deed.

Send someone a friendly text message.

This is especially great in the content of a friend that has drifted away or you haven't been in touch with lately, but it's nice to send someone a little text message with something sweet to let them know that you care. I usually say that I hope that they're having a great day and something along the lines of letting them know that I'm there for them and I care. This can spark conversation or it can just give them that little boost that they just might need on a gloomy day.

What will you do to make someone smile today?
